Tha Ruea Shrine
Tha Ruea is a small but very impressive Chinese shrine in Phuket. It’s not the most popular place among tourists, and it’s the locals who are most often found inside. But if you’re in the neighborhood, Tha Rua is definitely worth a visit. It is in the classic Taoist style, in bright colors with carved vaulted roofs and numerous dragons. There is only one building with three doors and two altars. Three staircases lead to them at once – two with steps and one without them. As in all Chinese temples, there are many sculptures of Deities inside. The main place is given to the Goddess of Mercy Guan Yin, from whom one asks for health and healing from diseases. You will not see large statues of Buddhas, as in all Thai temples. Don’t forget to take off your shoes at the entrance.
