Viking Bar in Rawai is a small beachfront bar and restaurant with the feel of a solid, old-school pub — without the forced “Nordic” styling you might expect from the name. It’s an easy stop after the beach: calm, laid-back, and popular with European visitors. In the evenings it fills up quickly, as the place is fairly intimate in size.
The menu leans European and the portions are generous. Steaks are a highlight, and they also serve Bourguignonne fondue, including a wagyu option. You’ll find fresh oysters and seafood platters too (some items are best pre-ordered). Other standouts include foie gras, pâtés, beef tartare, salmon, lasagna, pasta, tempura prawns with tartar sauce, homemade croquettes, and their signature fries served with three dipping sauces. One dish that deserves a special mention is the cod loin, paired with sauces such as lobster or caper-lemon — something you don’t see often in Phuket.
The drinks list is a strong point: there’s a wide selection of Belgian and international beers, and they’re served properly cold in chilled glasses. Cocktails are well made — especially the Bloody Mary. Prices for drinks are in line with the area; food can come out slightly higher at times, but the quality generally justifies it. Live music in a Rawai bar plays on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays: not too loud, easy to hold a conversation and sing along.
Service is typically friendly and attentive, and the space is kept tidy. During peak hours you may experience a wait or slower pacing, and it’s worth double-checking the selection if you’re ordering house wine. And on particularly good nights, the owner might ring a bell — followed by shots for everyone at the bar.
