Phuket has more than thirty beaches, and trying to find the single “best” one is a fairly pointless exercise. A beach for a family holiday is different from one for surfing, and the perfect sunset spot isn’t necessarily where you’d want to spend the day with your kids.
That’s why we’ve grouped Phuket’s beaches by category rather than ranking them. Some appear in several categories — and that’s perfectly normal: each has its own strengths.

If you’re visiting Phuket with the whole family, Karon, Kata, Kamala, Nai Harn, and Bang Tao are the first beaches to consider.
Karon

Karon is an ideal choice for those who want more space. The beach is wide and stretches for almost 3 kilometers.
The seabed slopes gently, making Karon suitable for families and less confident swimmers. Near the shore, the bottom is soft and sandy, with rocky areas and reefs farther out.
The beach’s distinctive feature is its white sand, nicknamed “singing sand” for the characteristic squeak it makes underfoot. This effect comes from its high quartz content — walking on it can produce a sound similar to the crunch of snow.
Palm trees line the beach, so you can find natural shade in some spots. Beyond the sand, the familiar buzz of resort life begins, with cafes, restaurants, and bars serving Thai and European cuisine.

Kata

One of the most convenient beaches for families. It’s located on the island’s west coast, between Karon and Kata Noi.
Kata’s main advantage is its wide stretch of soft, light-colored sand, perfect for children to play and the whole family to relax.
Small stalls along the beach sell drinks, food, and beach essentials, with cafes and restaurants nearby.
From November to April, the sea at Kata is usually calm, while May to October brings waves, making Kata a popular spot for surfing. Always check the beach flags and sea conditions before swimming.

Another advantage of Kata Beach is its convenient location. It’s easy to reach from different parts of the island, and you can even walk from neighboring Karon.
Kamala

Kamala is a beach on Phuket’s west coast, stretching approximately 1.5 km. It offers a good balance between a relaxed family holiday and convenient amenities.

During the high season, the sea at Kamala is usually calm, making it a comfortable spot for families with children. From May to October, conditions change: waves arrive, and Kamala becomes more appealing to surfers.
Palm trees line the shore, but they don’t provide much shade. For a comfortable day at the beach, you can rent a sun lounger with an umbrella. On and around the beach, you’ll find cafes, small shops, massage parlors, and stalls selling beach essentials. Showers and toilets are also available for a fee.
Nai Harn

A picturesque beach in southern Phuket, set in a sheltered bay. Thanks to its location, the sea is usually calm during the high season, with easy entry into the water, making Nai Harn a popular choice for families with children.
The beach is surrounded by green hills, with soft, light sand and clear water along the shore. Sun loungers are available for rent, and cafés, restaurants, and massage salons are within walking distance — convenient if you’re planning to spend the whole day here.

Bang Tao

One of Phuket’s longest beaches, Bang Tao stretches for almost 7 kilometres along the west coast. With soft sand, clear water, and easy access to the sea, it’s a great choice for families with children. And with such a long stretch of beach, everyone can find their own spot in the sun and enjoy their preferred style of beach holiday.
Another bonus is the casuarina groves along the shore: in some spots, you can take shelter from the sun beneath the trees.
The southern part of Bang Tao is the liveliest, with sun loungers, cafes, restaurants, and shops. The central stretch is quieter, while farther north you can find more secluded spots.
Various water activities are available on the beach, and its long shoreline makes Bang Tao ideal for leisurely walks by the sea.

Ya Nui

Ya Nui is a small, picturesque bay in southern Phuket, about 600 metres from Nai Harn.
The beach is compact, at around 200 metres long, and its main feature is a large rocky outcrop that divides the shoreline into two sections, making it especially photogenic.
The beach has retained a fairly authentic atmosphere: there are no typical rows of sun loungers and umbrellas, but you can rent a kayak and paddle out to the small island just offshore.

Kata Noi

A small but very picturesque bay. The beach is especially photogenic thanks to the large rocks at both ends of the shoreline, which beautifully frame the sea.
For beautiful shots, head to the southern end of the beach, and for sunset photos, make your way to the northern end.
One important thing to note: much of the shoreline is part of the Katathani hotel grounds, so public access to the beach is via the stairs at the northern end or through the motorbike parking area at the southern end. Finding parking can be tricky during the high season.
Sun loungers and umbrellas are available for rent on the beach, along with various water activities.
Banana

This is the beach people come to for that picture-perfect slice of paradise. A small bay, palm trees, rocks, and crystal-clear water — it looks as though a little piece of a tropical island has been hidden away from the world.
The beach is on Phuket’s northwest coast, between Bang Tao and Nai Thon. It’s almost invisible from the road: you first need to park and walk down a trail through the greenery before the bay comes into view below. This short walk is precisely what helps Banana Beach retain its secluded, hidden-away feel.
The beach owes its name to the shape of its shoreline, which really does resemble a banana. The bay looks especially beautiful from above.
It’s easy to find great angles from the shore, too: the palm trees, rocks, and turquoise water have already done most of the photographer’s work. There is one thing to keep in mind, though: the beach becomes noticeably narrower at high tide, and strong waves can bring the sea almost up to the trees. So it’s best to check the weather and sea conditions before visiting.
There are a few small cafes on the shore, and you can rent a boat near the beach for a trip out to sea. You can park along the road or in a paid parking area.
Laem Sing

A beach that looks as though it was made for your phone wallpaper. A small bay, light sand, clear water, rocks, and lush tropical greenery all around — it’s impossible to leave without taking at least a few photos.
The beach is tucked away between Kamala and Surin, hidden from the road. This gives it the feel of a secret spot, although Laem Sing has long been known to travellers looking for beautiful, more intimate beaches.
It’s especially beautiful here in the late afternoon. Head up to the viewpoint above the bay for panoramic views of the sea and Laem Sing Beach.
You can reach the beach on foot via a trail that starts on the Surin side. If you’d rather skip the walk, you can hire a longtail boat at Surin or Kamala and arrive in the bay by sea.
Coral

Coral Beach on Koh Hae is a place where stunning photos come effortlessly. Fine, snow-white sand, vivid turquoise water, and tropical greenery create that quintessential postcard scene from Thailand’s islands.
There are several photogenic spots here, so nature isn’t the only one that’s put in the effort to help you capture the perfect shot.
The beach is about a 20-minute boat ride from Rawai, so the journey itself adds to the island atmosphere. There are a few cafes and a campsite with tents, so you can spend the whole day on the island or even stay overnight.

For Beautiful Sunsets
Phuket faces west, so in the evening the sun sets over the Andaman Sea. Mai Khao, Karon, Bang Tao, and Surin are especially good spots to watch the sunset.
Mai Khao

A beach for those who love wide-open skies and very few people. Almost 11 kilometres of sandy shore stretch along Phuket’s northwest coast, making it easy to find a spot to sit by the water and watch the sun slowly disappear below the horizon.
The beach is part of Sirinat National Park, so you won’t find the usual range of water activities here. Facilities are minimal too, with just a few small cafés.
Mai Khao also has its own evening show: planes coming in to land right over the beach. People make a special trip here to capture spectacular photos.
Mai Khao’s beauty lies in its vast natural landscape, but it isn’t everyone’s ideal spot for a beach day. Some areas have strong currents and a steep drop-off into the water, so it’s important to be cautious and pay attention to sea conditions. For families with young children, another beach is a better choice.

Karon

Karon is a great spot for sunsets thanks to its sheer size. With almost 3 kilometres of wide sandy shore, an open horizon, and very little to obstruct the view, you can simply pick a spot on the sand and watch the sun slowly sink into the Andaman Sea.
It’s best to arrive an hour to an hour and a half before sunset: while the sun is still high, you can stroll along the water, grab a bite at a nearby cafe, and then return to the shore for the evening’s main show.
For the most beautiful views, head to Karon Viewpoint. The viewpoint isn’t on the beach itself, but you can drive there in around 10–20 minutes.
Bang Tao

At Bang Tao, you can enjoy the sunset a little differently each time. Almost 7 kilometres of sandy shore let you choose your own setting: stay among the cafés and lively beach scene in the south, find a spot away from the crowds, or head north, where the evenings are especially peaceful.
As sunset approaches, it’s lovely to stroll along the water: the beach is long enough to wander without a destination while the sun slowly sinks over the sea. And if you’d like to combine sunset with dinner, the Bang Tao area has plenty of cafes and restaurants, including some right on the waterfront.
Surin

Surin is on Phuket’s northwest coast, between Kamala and Bang Tao. It’s especially beautiful in the late afternoon, when the heat of the day eases and the light turns soft and golden.
On clear days, the sunset here is especially striking: the sea and sky gradually change colour until the sun disappears below the horizon.
You can arrive a little early to swim, stroll along the sand, and pick a spot with a view of the horizon. After sunset, head out for dinner — there are cafes and restaurants near the beach.
For Snorkeling
For snorkelling on Phuket itself, it’s best to choose beaches and bays with rocky areas. Fish and other marine life are most often found near rocks and boulders. Options include Ya Nui, Laem Sing, Banana Beach, Coral Beach, and Merlin Beach.
Ya Nui

Yanui Bay is surrounded by rocks, with a small island just offshore — these are the most interesting spots to explore the underwater world.
The water here is usually clear, so you can spot fish and corals near the rocks. For a more adventurous outing, you can rent a kayak and paddle over to the island. At low tide, some marine life becomes visible even right along the shore.
The beach is small and cozy, without long rows of sun loungers and umbrellas. After snorkeling, you can relax on the shore or head up to the nearby viewpoint.
Laem Sing

Laem Sing Bay is surrounded by rocks and lush tropical greenery. The best snorkeling spots are at either end of the beach, where the rocky seabed provides ideal conditions for observing marine life.
The water here is clear, and you can spot fish and other sea creatures near the rocks. When the sea is calm, it’s especially enjoyable to swim a little farther from shore and explore the areas around the rocks.
Banana

The best snorkeling spots at Banana Beach are at either end of the beach. The center is sandy, while the sides have rocks and patches of coral where you can observe marine life.
The water here is clear, so you can spot fish and corals even close to shore.
It’s important to keep the tides in mind: at high tide, only a narrow strip of sand remains, and strong waves can bring the water almost up to the trees.
Coral Beach

Visitors come to Coral Beach for its white sand, crystal-clear azure water and, of course, snorkeling: the waters around the island offer great conditions for spotting fish and corals.
The beach is suitable for swimming and snorkeling even during the low season, when the sea can be rough at many of Phuket’s beaches.
You can get there from Rawai by longtail boat — around 1,500–2,000 baht for a round trip, including waiting time. The island entrance fee is 100 baht per person. There are several cafés on the beach, as well as a campsite with tents where you can stay overnight.
Merlin Snorkel

Для серфинга
Серфинг на Пхукете в первую очередь связан с сезоном дождей, когда на западном побережье появляются волны. Основные варианты – Ката, Найтон и Калим.
Ката

На пляже работают серф-школы, где можно взять урок с инструктором, а также есть прокат досок для тех, кто уже умеет кататься. Новичкам помогают освоить базовую технику и безопасно зайти в воду.
Волны на Кате обычно подходят для обучения: они не самые большие и в подходящих условиях достаточно предсказуемые. При этом в сезон условия меняются в зависимости от погоды и прибоя, поэтому перед выходом в воду стоит смотреть на флаги и оценивать море.
Найтон

Найтон – довольно спокойный серф-спот на севере Пхукета, куда стоит ехать, если хочется совместить волны с более тихой атмосферой. С мая по сентябрь здесь бывают хорошие условия для серфинга: на небольших волнах могут заниматься новички, а при более сильном свелле интереснее становится опытным райдерам.
На пляже есть серф-школы и прокат досок, но выбор заметно меньше, чем на Кате. Поэтому Найтон больше подойдет тем, кто уже знает, чего ждать от серфинга, или хочет заниматься в менее людном месте.
При этом море здесь может быть обманчивым: при увеличении волн усиливаются течения и прибой, поэтому перед выходом в воду важно смотреть на флаги и оценивать условия.
В целом, на Найтон можно приехать не только ради серфинга. Здесь также можно заняться снорклингом и просто отдохнуть.

Калим

Калим находится буквально в нескольких минутах езды от Патонга, но атмосфера здесь гораздо спокойнее.
Калим – это рифовый спот с каменистым дном, поэтому он больше подходит опытным серферам и тем, кто уже уверенно стоит на доске. В сезон муссонов, примерно с мая по октябрь, здесь формируются быстрые и достаточно мощные волны.
Особенность Калима – длинные правые волны, которые при хороших условиях могут давать довольно продолжительные проезды.
Если серфинг вас не интересует, Калим все равно стоит посетить ради более спокойной атмосферы рядом с Патонгом. А в отлив здесь можно снорклить и рассматривать морскую живность в небольших каменных бассейнах у берега.
Для тишины и релакса
Когда хочется просто лечь на песок, читать книгу и не слышать музыку из соседнего заведения, смотрите в сторону Найтона, Най Янга, Лаем Синга и Мерлина.
Найтон

Найтон находится на территории национального парка Сиринат, примерно в 10 км от аэропорта. Здесь около 1 км песчаного берега, много зелени и заметно меньше суеты, чем на популярных пляжах острова. В высокий сезон море обычно спокойное, а пологий заход делает Найтон удобным для отдыха с детьми.
Вдоль пляжа есть кафе и рестораны, рядом парковка. Можно заняться снорклингом или просто провести день у моря без большого количества водных развлечений и шумных компаний.
Най Янг

Спокойный пляж на севере Пхукета, рядом с аэропортом. Почти 2 километра берега окружены зеленью, а часть пляжа находится на территории национального парка Сиринат.
Здесь обычно тихо и немноголюдно, а море в высокий сезон спокойное, с пологим заходом. В северной части особенно приятно просто гулять и наслаждаться природой.
При этом на пляже есть все необходимое: лежаки, кафе и рестораны, массаж, душ, туалет и парковка.

Лаем Синг

Как мы уже рассказывали, на Лаем Синг мягкий светлый песок, прозрачная вода и гораздо меньше людей, чем на популярных пляжах поблизости. Хороший вариант для спокойного отдыха.
На пляже есть кафе, магазинчики, шезлонги и водные развлечения, а ближе к вечеру можно подняться на обзорную площадку Лаем Синг и посмотреть на бухту с высоты.
Мерлин Сноркел

Мерлин особенно интересен тем, кто живет в районе Патонга, но хочет на несколько часов сбежать от его ритма. Пляж находится совсем рядом, а ощущение – будто вы уехали значительно дальше. Пляж окружен тропической зеленью и обычно довольно тихий. На берегу есть бары, рестораны и массаж.
Для тусовки
Если пляжный отдых для вас – это музыка, бары и коктейли, то выбирайте Патонг, Банг Тао или Камалу.
Патонг

Патонг – самый оживленный пляж Пхукета. Около 4 километров песчаного берега, водные развлечения, кафе, рестораны, бары и бич-клабы – здесь всегда есть чем заняться.

Днем можно взять лежак, покататься на гидроцикле, “банане” или сапе, попробовать парасейлинг, а вечером переместиться в бары и клубы района. Самая насыщенная часть пляжа – центр, где больше всего людей, прокатов и развлечений.
Если хочется чуть меньше суеты, можно выбрать северную часть Патонга. А юг спокойнее, но для купания подходит хуже из-за лодок и более мутной воды.
Из пляжных заведений можно заглянуть в Barra Cuda Beach Club, Kudo Beach Club или Fuga Beach Club.
Единственный момент: Патонг – не самый чистый пляж, и многие не купаются там в принципе.

Банг Тао

Мы уже упоминали пляж Банг Тао как подходящий вариант для отдыха с детьми. Но этот пляж – очень длинный, и тут есть место и для тусовщиков.
На Банг Тао сосредоточено много пляжных клубов, поэтому здесь легко совместить купание и вечерние развлечения. Среди самых известных – GOAT Beach Club Phuket, Carpe Diem, Solis, Casuarina Beach Club, NORA Beach Club, RAVA, Catch Beach Club и XANA: музыка, коктейли, бассейны и вечеринки прямо у моря.
Камала

Камала подойдет тем, кто хочет более расслабленную альтернативу Патонгу. Здесь есть пляжные клубы, рестораны и вечерняя жизнь, но сам район гораздо спокойнее.
Главная точка притяжения – Café del Mar Phuket, часть знаменитого бренда с Ибицы. Днем здесь лаунж у моря с бассейном, музыкой и коктейлями, а ближе к вечеру пространство превращается в площадку для вечеринок и DJ-сетов.
Этот бич-клаб стоит внимания: тропический дизайн, большой бассейн, бар в центре и зона у воды создают атмосферу курорта, где можно провести весь день и остаться до позднего вечера. А за пультом можно встретить именитых диджеев.

Для уединения
Полностью безлюдных пляжей на Пхукете становится все меньше, особенно в высокий сезон. Но если хочется побыть подальше от основной туристической сцены, обратите внимание на Сай Кэв, Банана Бич, Хуа и Три Транг.
Сай Кэв

Пляж для тех, кому на отдыхе хочется исчезнуть из туристического Пхукета хотя бы на несколько часов. Здесь нет отелей, почти нет инфраструктуры и всего одно кафе, поэтому даже в высокий сезон можно оказаться на берегу практически в одиночестве.
Никаких рядов лежаков, зонтов и водных развлечений – только песок, море и зелень вокруг.
Море здесь с характером: заход довольно крутой, а из-за открытого побережья волны могут быть заметными, особенно с мая по октябрь. Зато именно эта необжитость и делает Сай Кэв одним из интересных вариантов для уединения.
Банана

Банана Бич – классический вариант для маленького пляжного побега. Добраться сюда сложнее, чем на большинство популярных пляжей, поэтому атмосфера заметно спокойнее.
Лучше приезжать пораньше: небольшой размер бухты означает, что ощущение уединения сильно зависит от количества людей.
Хуа

Небольшой малолюдный пляж рядом с Камалой, где даже в высокий сезон дождей можно найти немного тишины. Бухта защищена от ветра и волн, поэтому здесь часто почти полный штиль.
Пляж окружен скалами и тропической зеленью, а деревья вдоль берега дают много естественной тени. Инфраструктуры здесь минимум, зато можно припарковаться прямо у пляжа и провести несколько часов вдали от шумных курортных мест.
Есть и необычный бонус: иногда в бухте можно увидеть купание слонов.
Однако стоит учитывать приливы и отливы – во время отлива море сильно отступает, а к берегу иногда прибивает мусор.

Три Транг

Спокойный пляж в закрытой бухте всего в нескольких километрах от Патонга. Он протянулся примерно на 700 метров, а мыс защищает бухту от сильных волн. Особенно хорош Три Транг в низкий сезон, когда на многих пляжах западного побережья море становится неспокойным.
Главный нюанс – сильные приливы и отливы. Во время отлива вода сильно уходит, обнажая камни и ракушки, поэтому для купания лучше выбирать прилив.
Рядом находится Tri Trang Beach Resort, где можно воспользоваться базовой инфраструктурой – есть лежаки, душ и ресторан. К пляжу ведет довольно крутой спуск, поэтому на байке стоит быть особенно внимательными.
Для длинных прогулок
Если вы из тех, кто не может просто лежать на пляже и хочет “нашагивать шаги”, выбирайте Май Кхао, Банг Тао или Карон.
Май Кхао
Как мы уже писали, это один из самых длинных и просторных пляжей Пхукета. Здесь можно идти вдоль моря очень долго, почти не замечая курортной суеты.
Отдельный бонус – близость аэропорта. В некоторых местах можно наблюдать за самолетами, заходящими на посадку.
Банг Тао
Банг Тао – еще один очень подходящий для долгих прогулок. Он настолько длинный, что можно выбрать маршрут на несколько километров и не повторять один и тот же участок.
Карон
Карон тоже отлично подходит для вечерней прогулки. Особенно приятно приходить сюда ближе к закату, когда жара спадает.
Для отдыха в низкий сезон
С мая по октябрь на западном побережье Пхукета может быть ветрено и волнисто. Это не означает, что в сезон дождей нельзя отдыхать у моря, но пляж лучше выбирать с учетом погоды именно в день поездки.
Ао Йон

Ао Йон – один из пляжей, которые стоит запомнить на случай поездки на Пхукет в сезон дождей. Пока на западном побережье бывают волны и красные флаги, в этой бухте море обычно остается спокойным благодаря защищенному расположению на восточной стороне острова.
Пляж разделен скальным выступом на две части. Большая часть выглядит живописнее: к ней ведет небольшой мостик вдоль скал от парковки. При этом стоит учитывать ярко выраженные приливы и отливы – перед поездкой лучше проверить уровень воды.

Три Транг
Еще один пляж, который остается доступным даже в низкий сезон. А близость к Патонгу делает Три Транг удобным вариантом для тех, кто остановился в центральной части острова, но не хочет ехать далеко.
На Три Транге мыс защищает бухту от прибоя, поэтому море обычно спокойнее. Главный нюанс – приливы и отливы: для купания лучше выбирать время прилива, когда камни скрыты под водой.
Най Янг
Хороший вариант для пляжного отдыха в низкий сезон, особенно если хочется найти более спокойное море на севере острова. Пляж расположен в защищенной бухте, а его северная часть находится в национальном парке Сиринат, поэтому здесь много зелени и мало плотной застройки.
В сезон дождей море здесь обычно спокойнее, чем на открытых западных пляжах, хотя при сильном ветре волны все же возможны. На берегу есть кафе, рестораны и другая необходимая инфраструктура, а рядом находится аэропорт.

Если вы живете на Пхукете дольше нескольких дней, вообще не обязательно выбирать один любимый пляж. Пхукет хорош как раз тем, что разные пляжи здесь легко превращаются в разные сценарии одного отпуска.
