Karon is one of the most popular areas on Phuket’s west coast. Its main feature is a long beach, a wide shoreline, and a more relaxed atmosphere compared to Patong.

It is a place that appeals both to families with children and to those who want to stay close to well-developed infrastructure, but without the noisy nightlife.

Beaches

Karon’s main asset is its coastline. It is home to one of the longest beaches in Phuket, and just a few minutes’ drive away you can find more secluded bays with clear water and excellent swimming conditions.

Karon Beach

Geo on Google Maps

The main beach in the area and one of the longest in Phuket. Its wide shoreline, light sand, and beautiful sunsets have made it one of the island’s most recognizable beaches.

Karon Beach is known for its unusual quartz sand, which slightly squeaks underfoot.

During the high season, the sea here is usually calm and clear, while in winter the water takes on a rich turquoise hue. Thanks to the beach’s long stretch, it is always possible to find a free spot even at the height of the tourist season.

Had Karon Noi Beach (Relax Beach)

Geo on Google Maps

A small private beach between Karon and Patong, located on the grounds of the Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort. Many consider it one of the most beautiful beaches in this part of the island thanks to its white sand, clear water, and picturesque bay, hidden away from busy tourist areas.

The beach is well equipped: there are sun loungers, umbrellas, showers, restaurants, and various water activities, including kayaking, catamarans, and jet skis.

Despite its proximity to popular resorts, the atmosphere here remains calm and intimate — a great option if you want to spend a comfortable day at the beach without large crowds.

Attractions

Wat Karon Temple

Geo on Google Maps

The main Buddhist temple of the Karon area, founded in the late 19th century. Despite its proximity to tourist streets, it has a peaceful atmosphere that contrasts sharply with the lively coastline.

The temple grounds are decorated with traditional Thai pagodas, and the entrance to the main hall is guarded by mythical naga serpents. Inside, you can see colorful murals depicting the life of the Buddha, as well as one of the temple’s main sacred objects — a black jade Buddha statue.

The temple is still active, so it is visited not only by tourists but also by local residents for prayer and religious ceremonies.

On Tuesdays and Fridays, the grounds of Wat Karon transform noticeably: one of the most popular night markets in southern Phuket takes place here, offering street food, souvenirs, and goods from local artisans.

Karon Temple Night Market

Geo on Google Maps
Working hours: Mon - Sun: 07:00 - 17:00

One of the most unusual night markets in southern Phuket is located on the grounds of the Buddhist temple Wat Suwan Khirikhet. This place brings together two sides of Thailand at once: traditional culture and the lively atmosphere of a bustling Asian market.

At the market, you can try popular Thai dishes such as pad thai, tom yum, meat and seafood skewers, fresh fruit, smoothies, coconut ice cream, mango sticky rice, and much more. In addition, souvenirs, clothing, cosmetics, handmade crafts, and various goods from local artisans are sold here.

If you wish, you can combine a visit to the market with a walk around the temple complex, which remains open to visitors during the market’s operating hours.

Just don’t forget about the dress code: shoulders and knees must be covered.

We tried to capture the atmosphere of this night market in our video:

Karon Park

Geo on Google Maps
Working hours: Mon - Sun: 06:00 - 22:00

One of the few places in Karon where you can take a walk or go for a run away from busy roads. The park is located next to a lake and is popular with both tourists and locals.

There are walking and jogging paths running around the perimeter. The area also includes green picnic spots, and cafes nearby.

The park’s atmosphere is enhanced by colorful works of street artists, which can be seen along the paths. Thanks to its combination of nature, open space, and a peaceful environment, Karon Park remains one of the best places in the area for relaxation and active leisure.
