Kamala is one of the calmest and most comfortable areas on Phuket’s west coast. It doesn’t offer as much entertainment as Patong, nor does it have the active expat community found in Rawai.

Instead, it features a long sandy beach, beautiful sea views, excellent restaurants, stylish beach clubs, and a relaxed atmosphere. Kamala is often chosen by families with children, couples, and those who want to live close to the sea without the extra noise.

Beaches

Kamala is, above all, about the sea and beaches. Here, you’ll find both a long public beach with cafes and massage parlors, as well as more secluded bays with beautiful views and the atmosphere of a tropical island.

Kamala Beach

Geo on Google Maps

One of Phuket’s most popular family-friendly beaches, located in the central part of the island’s west coast. Its wide shoreline stretches for about 1.5 kilometers, and the soft golden sand along with the gentle slope into the sea make it an excellent place for a relaxing getaway.

During the high season, the sea here is usually calm and well suited for swimming with children.

During the low season, waves appear at Kamala Beach, making it a popular spot for beginner surfers. You can rent a surfboard on the beach and take a few lessons from local instructors.

Along the beach, there is a promenade lined with cafes, restaurants, massage parlors, shops, and stalls selling beach essentials. For a more comfortable stay, you can rent a sunbed with an umbrella. There are also paid showers and restrooms available on the beach.

Haad Laem Sing Beach

Geo on Google Maps

A picturesque bay hidden between rocky cliffs and lush tropical vegetation, preserving the atmosphere of a tropical island.

Its soft light-colored sand, crystal-clear water, and beautiful scenery make Laem Sing an excellent spot for relaxation, swimming, and snorkeling.

Even during the high season, there are usually noticeably fewer people here than on the neighboring popular beaches.

Laem Sing can be reached via a trail from Surin Beach. The descent is not difficult, but it does take a bit of time and requires comfortable footwear. Alternatively, you can rent a longtail boat at Surin or Kamala Beach and reach the bay by sea.

Hua Beach

Geo on Google Maps

A small, cozy bay that somehow remains relatively unknown to most tourists. It is one of the few places on Phuket’s west coast where the sea often stays calm even during the rainy season.

Thanks to the bay’s sheltered location, there are usually fewer waves here than on the neighboring beaches.

However, it is worth taking into account the strong tides: for comfortable swimming, it is better to come during high tide.

The beach is surrounded by tropical trees that create natural shade along almost the entire shoreline. At the edges, the bay is framed by scenic cliffs, adding a sense of seclusion to the place.

The beach can be reached by scooter or car via the road from Kamala. The entrance is located near the main highway, and the parking area is close to the shore. See more details:

Attractions

Tsunami Memorial Park

Geo on Google Maps

A memorial site dedicated to the victims of the devastating 2004 tsunami that affected many countries around the Indian Ocean, including Thailand. On Phuket, the disaster took thousands of lives and forever changed the fate of many families.

The central feature of the memorial is called the “Heart of the Universe.” It is a ten-meter spherical structure made of wavy metal elements, symbolizing the powerful natural forces that exist on our planet.

Today, the memorial is located within a well-maintained seaside park. It features walking paths, playgrounds, outdoor fitness equipment, and access to the beach. Despite the tragic history of this place, it now serves not only as a reminder of the events of 2004 but also as a popular public space for relaxation for both locals and tourists.

Laem Sing Viewpoint

Geo on Google Maps

The viewpoint is located between Kamala and Surin beaches and is considered one of the most beautiful scenic spots in the northern part of Phuket’s west coast. Although the platform itself looks quite modest, it offers impressive views of the Andaman Sea, tropical vegetation, and the picturesque Laem Sing Bay.

The viewpoint is located right by the road, with a small parking area nearby for cars and scooters, so it is easy to stop here for just a few minutes while traveling between beaches.

It is especially beautiful here before sunset, when the sun begins to dip toward the horizon and paints the coastline in warm golden tones.
